ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and regulations in human resources. Whether you are a seasoned human resource professional or you are just entering the field, UNLV has courses to expand your understanding of current, relevant issues. Course offerings will provide you with tools needed to demonstrate a broad understanding of HR disciplines including benefits, compensation, organizational and employee development, diversity, employee relations, and staff management. Courses are developed through consultation with human resource management professionals, human resource consultants, and business leaders.

The Human Resource Management program is designed to meet the needs of Southern Nevada for a prepared and educated workforce in the field of human resource management. This entry-level program provides an opportunity for members of the community interested in pursuing a career in human resource management.

This Program is Perfect For

New HR professionals, small business owners, managers with HR responsibilities, and HR professionals wanting to branch into additional functional areas.

What You Will Learn

By the end of the program students will:

  • Be able to define human resource management and explain the roles and responsibilities of human resource professionals.
  • Be able to explain the key provisions of legislation that affects HR employment law activities.
  • Be able to evaluate recruitment methods and their effectiveness in addition to understanding the interview and selection process.
  • Be able to explain the basic elements of a compensation system and benefits commonly offered by employers.
  • Be able to explain training strategies, professional development tools, and the evaluation process for employee development. 
  • Be able to identify best practices for using performance management techniques to evaluate and discipline employees.

Program Details

There are two certificate options for Human Resource Management.

  • To earn the Certificate in Human Resource Management you must successfully complete the Essentials of Human Resource Management core course plus an additional 2.4 CEUs of electives.
  • To earn the Advanced Certificate in Human Resource Management you must successfully complete the Essentials of Human Resource Management core course plus an additional 6 CEUs of electives.

Once you fulfill all certificate program requirements as outlined in the Academic Plan, you may request your certificate.

Ways To Register

  1. Register online with a credit card at https://register.edoutreach.unlv.edu/ Returning students should login with their Continuing Education Student ID number (typically in the format of X00-00-000 or XW0-00-0000) or email address.  New students should click on the Sign Up button or the “create account” link to create an account.
  2. Register by phone with a credit card by calling the Information Desk at (702) 895-3394.  Customer Service hours for the Information Desk are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed on university-observed holidays).
  3. Register by fax by submitting a Registration Form and credit card information to (702) 895-4195. Registration forms received outside of regular Customer Services hours listed above will be processed on the next business day.
  4. Register by standard mail by mailing a Registration Form with payment to the address listed below.  Payment must accompany the form and can be any of the following:
    a. Credit Card information listed on the Registration Form
    b. Check or Money Order made out to Board of Regents
    c. DO NOT SEND CASH
