Football stadium district sales tax expires; Broomfield tax rates decrease

Author

Because of the expiration of the metro area’s football stadium district tax, since Jan. 1 sales taxes in Broomfield have gone down.

The 0.1 percent stadium tax, collected from taxpayers in Denver-metro area counties since 2001, was instituted to help pay for construction of Invesco Field at Mile High, now Sports Authority Field at Mile High. It expired Dec. 31.

Most Broomfield businesses will now collect 8.15 percent sales tax — 4.15 percent for the City and County of Broomfield, 2.9 percent for the state, and a combined 1.1 percent for RTD and the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District.

Businesses in the FlatIron improvement district, which includes the FlatIron Crossing mall and surrounding shopping centers, and the Arista improvement district, which includes the 1stBank Center and surrounding businesses, will collect an additional 0.2 percent sales tax, for a total of 8.35 percent.
