Green Awards_7064 433The home of the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce was recently a two-time winner at the annual C4 Green Awards Gala, hosted by the U.S. Green Building Council, California Central Coast Chapter.

On Dec. 6, SLO Chamber Board Chair-Elect Tim Williams walked across the stage at the Oreana Winery in Santa Barbara to accept two 2013 C4 Green Awards for innovative work performed on the Chamber’s Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) certified Monterey Street office.

The awards program highlights innovation in design, construction, products, business, schools, government and educational programs along the Central Coast. Winners in each award category are selected through a jury process based on specific criteria.

”Not only is it an honor to represent a business-focused organization that lists ‘quality of life’ as its top priority, but getting recognized for it is a thrill,” Williams said. “It was great to see the list of member businesses who worked on these state-of-the-art projects. SLO cleaned up this year.”

SLO Chamber members including In Balance Green Consulting, Mode Associates, Maino Construction, Garcia Architecture and Design, Thoma Electric, Brummel, Myrick and Associates, RRM Design Group and NKT Commercial were celebrated for work that they did on projects such as the new Rosetta facility among others.

The SLO Chamber was presented with two awards including the 2013 Green Rehab/Renovation Award and the Best Adaptive Re-Use Award. The Chamber moved to its 895 Monterey St. home in early 2013. RRM Design Group completed the design work on the facility.

“The new Chamber offices could not have been a better project to highlight sustainable business practices in our community,” said Erik Justesen, president and CEO at RRM Design Group. “Not only is the building and office space functional and beautiful it serves as a learning center for all those who walk through its doors.”

The SLO Chamber facility is only the second Chamber of Commerce in the country to receive the LEED distinction.
